A STEP CLOSER TO A University DEGREE
Summer celebrations as new students gain entry to University
Once again, the University of Glasgow and the University of Paisley at the Crichton Campus in Dumfries have supported in excess of 90 new students through the Summer School with students choosing to study Business, Computing or Arts & Humanities.
As always, this free course provides potential students with the opportunity to try out life as a University student before embarking on a full or part-time degree course and for many it provides them with the confidence they need to take on the challenge of Higher Education or boost their entry qualifications.
The Summer School has proved to be a very important recruitment tool for both Universities in Dumfries in recent years and this year has been no exception. Most students have now received the offer of a full or part-time place on the campus from September as a result of their performance in the Summer School. As well as students coming straight from school this includes mature students who are now returning to education after a considerable break.
Both the Crichton Foundation and Dumfries & Galloway Council Department of Education & Community Services have continued to financially support the Summer School in 2006, and both Universities are particularly grateful for their support, which helped promote the course and provided bursaries to those students who required financial assistance or accommodation to allow them to complete the 5-week course.
For anyone who missed the opportunity to participate in the 2006 Summer School, a new 2-week access course will also run from the 28th August – 8th September on the campus. This is a free course and will involve attending classes Monday to Friday for the two weeks. Once again subject options will include Business, Computing and Arts/Humanities and successful completion can result in the offer of a full or part-time place on a degree course with either the University of Glasgow or the University of Paisley in Dumfries.
