Summer Programme Launched
UNIVERSITY OF PAISLEY COURSE LAUNCH
The University of Paisley is offering members of the public the chance to try something new this summer at its campus in Dumfries, through the annual Summer Programme which gets underway from June.
The University’s Summer Programme, which is designed to let students combine work and other commitments, will enable prospective students to gain new skills for career or personal development, or simply to pick up a subject for personal interest. The Summer Programme can also be used as the basis for further study on the University’s courses starting in the new semester in September.
For those interested in finding out more about business, options in Personal and Interpersonal skills and Customer Service are offered.
The University’s new Exploring events module will introduce students to the nature and scope of events and the development of the events industry. In particular it will look at the characteristics of successful events including conferences; exhibitions; arts and entertainment festivals; sporting and leisure gatherings; community and charity occasions; and promotional/sales conventions.
Also available are a number of IT options including Introduction to the Internet and on a distance learning basis the University is offering a number of Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) courses. CIW is the industry-standard certification for Internet skills and courses being offered this summer include Webmaster Foundations, Web Server Administrator and Web Languages. The internationally-recognised European Computer Driving Licence qualification, which will equip students with a strong grounding in Microsoft Office applications and is fully funded, is also available for study on a distance learning basis.
In addition, the University is running two Health courses on an online learning basis - Quality Centred Health Care Management and Professional Practice.
Dr Anne McGillivray, Director of the University‘s Centre for Lifelong Learning, said: “The Summer Programme offers an ideal opportunity to put the summer months to good use by studying for personal or career development.”
Under the government Fee Waiver Scheme, those on low income or receiving benefit may be eligible for free part-time undergraduate study.
Prospective students may be eligible for £200 towards the cost of studies if they earn £15,000 or less, per year, or are on benefits, under the Scottish Executive Individual Learning Accounts Scotland scheme.
Under a special University initiative, to give students a taster of higher education study, new, first-time students at Paisley are being offered free study of one part-time module at the University.
The University is holding a drop-in Information Session at Crichton University Campus, Dumfries on Tuesday 23 May, 10am-12noon & 4pm-7pm. This session is aimed at anyone wishing further details on courses, funding and careers.
